Sukanto Tanoto directs the operations of the RGE Group, the $15 billion global family of natural resources-based companies he founded. Additionally, he provides philanthropic assistance to numerous causes through his Tanoto Foundation. Committed to education, the Foundation offers a scholarship program started in 2001.The Tanoto Foundation provides Rp 15 billion annually for scholarships so that students can pursue their education and realize their potential.

Mr. Tanoto has strived to pass on the importance of charitable giving to his children, who represent the next generation focused on giving back to the communities in which their family’s companies conduct business.

Sukanto Tanoto’s youngest son, Anderson Tanoto, aims to carry on the family’s commitment to education and philanthropy. Anderson, who is currently helping to direct the RGE company APRIL’s fiber production interests, also serves as a member of the board of directors of the Tanoto Foundation. He is dedicated to realizing the foundation’s vision as a “center of excellence” focused on alleviating poverty through empowerment, improvement in quality of life, and education.
He hopes that recipients of the Foundation’s scholarships will appreciate the opportunity to realize their dreams and pursue a brighter future. Committed to philanthropic endeavors, Anderson cites his father as his inspiration. He says his father taught him the importance of strong conviction and hard work.
Sukanto Tanoto and his wife established the Tanoto Foundation in 1981 and continue to direct its efforts, which include a scholarship program. Dedicated to education, lifelong learning, and hard work, he has achieved a prominent position in the entrepreneurial community of Southeast Asia. He and his family are committed to fostering the same spirit of achievement in the recipients of their organization’s scholarships.

Since 2006, 4,200 exceptional students have received scholarships from the Foundation to pursue their education at top universities, such as Hasanuddin University, University of Indonesia, Bogor Agricultural University, Gadjah Mada University, and Riau University.

Additionally, the Tanoto Foundation’s Scholars Gathering annually draws hundreds of participants who attend leadership training sessions and skill-building workshops, where they receive guidance from experienced business managers.
