Sukanto Tanoto – Sateri

In the early 2000s , a new business group for rayon and specialty viscose was established. The new business group later became known as SATERI INTERNATIONAL. The Group extended its global footprints with the establishment of two international operations.

In September 2003, Sateri International acquired Bahia Pulp, a renowned producer of dissolving pulp, and Copener, a fibre plantation company in Brazil. This acquisition added an integrated specialty cellulose mill and fibre plantation to the Group’s growing stable of companies, and Sateri became one of the top three players in the viscose fibre industry.

In Brazil, our presence is lead by Bahia Pulp, part of the Sateri Group. With a seedling nursery and 150,000 hectares of freehold land, Bahia Pulp has its own sustainable eucalyptus plantation for the production of high quality dissolving pulp.

Around the same time, Sateri International also built a rayon plant in Jiujiang, Jiangxi province, China.
