Tanoto Scholars Gathering 2014 has just ended with a big bang yesterday!
It is an annual event organized by Tanoto Foundation, founded by Sukanto Tanoto, to gather scholars from all over Indonesia for a networking and teambuilding session in Kerinci, Pelalawan. During this event, 228 scholars from different universities in Indonesia were split into teams and participated in various activities from outward bound exercises to campfire performances. Besides these events, Tanoto scholars were also given the opportunity to tour the mill facilities (including plantations and production processes) and learn more about the business operations of RGE.
This is also a once in a year opportunity for scholars to meet the founders of Tanoto foundation – their benefactors: Sukanto Tanoto and his wife, Tinah Bingei Tanoto. Besides the powerful couple, Sukanto Tanoto’s son and daughter (Anderson Tanoto and Belinda Tanoto) were also present to share some valuable life experiences to all scholars, to encourage them and impart the DNA of a Tanoto Scholar to everyone. It was also a very light hearted heart to heart sharing session, given the fact that Anderson and Belinda are both in the same age group as the scholars. They are like the elder brother and sister of the scholars and are able to relate more to the stage of life that the scholars are experiencing. Even though it was a short 4 days event, there is no doubt that many new friendships have been formed throughout the camp, some of which will last forever. 228 scholars came as different identities and individuals but they left the place as a united body of Tanoto scholars and ambassadors, changing their worlds with their sustainable idealism and positive attitude.
On the first day of the event, Tanoto Scholars gathered at Pelalawan, Kerinci. They were all smoothly registered and check into Unigraha Hotel before they were gathered for a welcome speech by Anderson Tanoto. Following that, scholars played Olympic games against one another and through these games, they got to know each other better and bonded well.
