Sukanto Tanoto’s RGE group looks back on a successful 2016

2016 was an exceptional year for the RGE group of companies, with several strategic business initiatives and philanthropic projects reaching fruition. Founded in 1973 by Indonesian business leader and pioneer, Sukanto Tanoto, the group has grown into a large multinational corporation with a strong and market-leading presence in the palm oil, paper pulp, and oil and gas industries to name just a few.

Tanoto’s’s RGE group expands global operations to include 2 exciting new regions – North and South America

The successful privatization of Bracell, the Brazilian cellulose producer, which is now an RGE company, and the approval and initiation of Pacific Oil and Gas`s Woodfibre LNG project in Canada, have extended RGE’s global footprint. These initiatives represent the next step in a journey of business excellence that Sukanto Tanoto began more than 40 years ago.

While 2016 was a landmark year for RGE’s business operations, the group’s philanthropic and community development efforts were just as successful. Mr Tanoto added the fourth “C” to his business philosophy in 2016, adding “climate” to the existing list of country, community, and company.

These four elements represent the broad range of stakeholders that will benefit from RGE’s business activities for years to come, and further evidence of the aim and reach of the Tanoto Foundation, a non-profit organization founded by Sukanto and Tinah Bingei Tanoto, working to reduce poverty, educate and empower members of the community.

In addition, RGE companies received numerous accolades during the year – including the Indonesian Government’s Green Award which was presented to the APRIL group.
